Memolli: the ultimate app for foodies to track restaurants and their reviews
Discover Memolli, the private food journal app designed for food lovers to log and remember their dining experiences.
If you love trying new restaurants, coffee shops, or bakeries, you’ve probably wondered how to actually keep track of the places you’ve been, and what you thought of them.
Memolli is a private, visual-first journal for food, drinks, and restaurants. Think of it as your own personal version of Yelp or Google Maps, but fully private, customizable, and built around your memories (not public ratings).
Before building Memolli, I tried many strategies: scattered photos on my phone, notes in Apple Notes, and reviews left across Yelp and Google Maps. Over time, I more often just winged it; relying on my gut instincts and memories instead. I liked being present in the moment instead of trying to capture everything. But at the same time, I found myself enjoying scrolling through a gallery of photos of food and drinks I’d had over the years. Even the bad photos trigger memories and emotions of places I’ve been or people I was with.
And that creates a problem. I don’t want to put my bad photos and half-formed thoughts out in public on Yelp or Google Maps. I also don’t want to spend time organizing and maintaining a complex note-taking system. Nor do I want some AI to try automating all that for me, they’re my memories after all. What I really want is a simple, private way to log my dining experiences that I can easily browse later.
Explore your restaurant history on a map
See all your restaurant reviews pinned on a map for easy browsing and rediscovery.
One of Memolli’s most powerful features is its map-based browsing. Every restaurant, café, or spot you log can be viewed directly on a map, making it easy to rediscover places you’ve been to based on location. This makes Memolli feel like a private version of Google Maps or Yelp, except:
- No public reviews
- No pressure to write polished reviews for an audience
- No algorithm pushing sponsored results
It’s just your personal restaurant map, built over time. If you want to read a deeper comparison of Memolli vs Yelp and Google Maps, check out my other blog post on that topic.
Works offline, travels with you
Memolli is built to work offline. We all know how spotty cell service can be inside restaurants. With Memolli, you can log entries even when you don’t have an internet connection. Your entries will sync automatically once you’re back online.
Need to remember what dish or beer you had the last time you visited a restaurant? Memolli’s offline mode has you covered.
A sweet spot between note-taking apps and public review platforms
Most note-taking apps are too generic and can take effort to setup and maintain, and most review platforms are too public and can be hard to trust. Memolli sits in the sweet spot between the two. The number one priority is to make it as easy as possible for you to capture your thoughts on what you try, but offer plenty of flexibility to customize your reviews as you see fit. Here is a list of what you can record for each review:
| Review input | Description | Optional? |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The name of the restaurant you visited, or food / drink item. | ✅ |
| Rating | Rate your experience on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. | ✅ |
| Notes | Write detailed notes about your experience. | ✅ |
| Photos | Capture photos of the food, drinks, or ambiance. | ✅ |
| Location | Location details for the place you visited, or the item’s producer. | ✅ |
| List | Add your review to one or more custom lists (e.g., “Favorites”, “To Try”). | ✅ |
| Custom Fields | Create your own fields to capture specific details (e.g., “Tasting notes”, “Service Rating”). | ✅ |

As you can see everything is optional, so you can keep it as simple or detailed as you want. Over time, this builds a rich, personal journal of your dining experiences that you can revisit anytime. If you want to read more about how Memolli compares to those traditions apps:
